Instructor:
Christy
English-Butcher's passion for acting began as a young girl, and after moving to LA in 1988 she decided to take an acting class and revisit her dream.
Christy was in a “method” class learning how to be a tree and a walk like a giraffe, and became disenchanted with the process.
She began to read about The ‘Meisner’ technique and became fascinated by this ‘honest’ way of acting. Sanford Meisner was starting a new class and was taking submissions. Out of 3500 applicants from LA, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and other major cities, he selected 50 students to go to the island of Bequia in the West Indies., and Christy Butchers was thrilled to learn that she was one.
Sandy selected Christy and 21 other students out of the 50 to study with him in LA for his two year private class, and the graduates were invited to his master class. Christy studied with Sanford Meisner for approximately four years.
For the past year, Christy has written, cast, directed and co-edited a film about teen addiction that has received accolades from as high as General Barry McCaffrey, former Secretary of Defense for the US government, and advocate for chemical dependency treatment
Christy has been in numerous theatre productions and has been the lead in many independent films.
Christy has been called an actors’ director. She has a huge respect for the process that actors go through, she is there to support them one hundred and fifty percent.
